The email was from a guy named Matt, someone we had never met. Matt had seen our Buck the Cubicle episode on Hikaru Dorodango and wanted to chat. Neither Jon nor I are phone people, but I was curious. After discussing other things, Matt asked if we had found our next subject.
“I don’t know…I’m entertaining the idea of an urban forager or something like that.”
“What about a pigment hunter?”
Not long after we were on a 4 day camping trip around Oregon. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Scott Sutton is actually a visual artist, but with a twist. He’s a font of knowledge on minerals, geologic processes, maps, creation myths and the tribes of the Pacific Northwest. He collects ethnographic texts and takes obvious delight in all things wilderness. He is also an honest and sensitive steward of some very old traditions.
